#Tumblr はブログとしては #MovableType 的でもなければ #WordPress 的でもなくて、だからこそソレらに駆逐されずに生き残ってきたのだと思うし、SNSとしては #Twitter と似て非なるからこその存在感であったと思うし。

なんで #Tumblr の話かと言えば、現在的にTumblrはどういう使い方をするのが「正解」なのかな、と悩んでいるから。 #Twitter (当時)の頃は長文投稿サービス然とした使い方をしていたけど、 #X になってからはプランによっては投稿が140字でなくなったし、そもそも #mastodon や #misskey なら、大体のポストは文字数を気にする必要がない程度には長文投稿が可能になって、そういう使い道では出番がなくなったよね。

Read this if you want a reminder why people still hang out on #X / #Twitter , #Facebook , #Instagram and so forth. A lot of people on the #Fediverse assume that the social communities on these platforms could simply reform on the Fediverse. But this isn't going to happen. When a social platform crashes, its social communities are usually gone permanently. I mean, I made the decision to leave Twitter, but I do miss a lot of the awesome people there whom I interacted with. And for others, the loss would be _far_ more acute. So instead of being moralistic about ordinary users on other platforms, we should work harder to build awesome communities here - hopefully ones that are more diverse than what the Fediverse has right now. https://pluralistic.net/2026/02/26/hanged-for-a-sheep/

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release: #TfL has disclosed spending on its account on X, formerly #Twitter, following a Freedom of Information request. TfL confirmed it holds the requested information. The applicant asked how much money, excluding labour costs, TfL spent on maintaining its X account in the 2024/25 and 2025/26 #financial years. TfL said it spent £201.60 in each year on a Premium Plus subscription. The organisation confirmed it did not run any paid advertising on X in either year and incurred no additional costs for managing the channel. This is worrying. I always suspected that exposure to X's algorithmic feed shifted people's views to the right, well, it's been confirmed by this research. This is why the Right invest so much in X, it's a tool to move whole demographics to the right.

Maybe you should review your premise in the first place. What do you mean exactly by 'protecting vulnerable groups' This is decentralized social media for God's sake! What are they _and what are you too_? 10 year Olds?? Your line of thinking will quickly produce #Twitter again (before Elon Musk), which was replicated now by #Bluesky. Jack Dorsey himself left Bluesky because of that. I have a question to you and it's a serious one. Can I call # Muhammad the prophet of Islam a pedophile? And if I can or cannot on this instance, who decides exactly what I can or cannot say? If a Muslim complained to you that this remark deeply hurts their feelings _and it sure does for some_, will they be considered a 'vulnerable group'? I don't really expect a sophisticated answer or anything but I truly want you to contemplate these questions before deciding to act like keyboard superhero and start deciding who gets to express their opinion or not.

A town council in Cornwall has agreed to stop using a social media platform for official business.

“Twitter just doesn’t feel like a place where responsible organisations should be touting their wares or aligning their values with.”

Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire also made the decision to stop using the “unsafe” social media platform in January.

In light of Bluesky’s myriad concerning decisions, I’m finding myself spending increasing amounts of time on Mastodon. I wonder if others feel the same. Similarly, I’m enjoying the discovery of new voices, and feel my interest in those pledging continued loyalty to Meta and/or Musk is beginning to feel strained.
